UPY2025 Competition dates & deadlines
Please remember these dates!
Here are the important dates for the 2025 Underwater Photographer of the Year competition. There is no need to wait until the last minute to submit your images as you can always delete and re-submit different photos should you change your mind before the final submission deadline.
1 November 2024 - Website opens for registration and entries to be submitted online.
You can register and submit your images online. You can change your uploaded images at any time until the competition closes. If you can see thumbnail images of your submitted photographs then they have been successfully uploaded. We do not send you an email to confirm your submission.
4 January 2025 - Closing date for all entries (midnight GMT), no other images will be accepted after this date.
The competition is closed and no more entries will be accepted. You will not be able to log in to your account because we need to compile the results.
6 - 8 January 2025 - Three days of in-person judging.
Our panel of judges will meet for three days of judging. This makes UPY unique as every single image entered is seen multiple times by all of our judges, and there is no "pre-judging" before-hand.
8 January 2025 - RAW images files will be requested from short-listed photographers.
We request images from our shortlisted photographers and a quick response is appreciated.
17 January 2025 - Deadline to send RAW images for scrutiny.
RAW files are checked and as soon as possible after this, all entrants will be notified of the results and be invited to see how each of their images progressed through the contest via our bespoke feedback system. THE RESULTS MUST REMAIN CONFIDENTIAL until they are publicly announced on 21 February 2025.
21 January 2025 (or before) - Results sent to all entrants.
As soon as we can we will notify ALL of our entrants and give feedback on how far through the judging rounds their images went. This timeline relies on all shortlisted entrants sending us their RAW files quickly.
PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT US before this date asking about your results, it is a very busy time for us! THE RESULTS MUST REMAIN CONFIDENTIAL until they are publicly announced on 21 February 2025.
20 February 2025 - UPY2025 Award Ceremony in central London
All winning photographers will be invited to attend our prestigious award ceremony in London. Details will be sent soon after the results notification. This is a private event and will be the official unveiling of the results.
21 February 2025 - UPY2025 results made public and press-pack sent out
