UPY 2016 British Waters Macro - Highly Commended
'Skeleton shrimp'
Trevor Rees
This is a skeleton shrimp (Caprella linearis) is perched on the hydroid (Kirchenpauria similis). It is a small crustacean, about 2 cm tall and is very easy to swim over and never notice. This yellow coloured individual caught my eye as they are generally white in appearance where they are then far more camouflaged against their familiar hydroid habitat. They are actually very common subjects indeed but are not often photographed well in UK waters. I was pleased to get one facing me in an upright position.
